<\/a>a Nightmare<\/p><\/div>Frightful barely describes last night’s dream. Stephen King could not have come up with a more frightening scenario. I dreamed that Trump had been elected president and was busy dismantling everything that was ever good about the United States. <\/p>\n
I dreamed that racists were running loose on the streets and that citizens were afraid to be pulled over by the police. I dreamed that the EPA was loosening controls on industries and allowing them to pollute at will, that safeguards for our birds and wildlife were being dismantled and the offshore waterways were being opened up to drilling. I dreamed that the parks and national monuments were being reduced in size and handed over to mining, drilling and forestry. I dreamed that protections previously given to the LGBTQ community were being altered or rescinded, that education was being transformed in ways unimaginable. <\/p>\n
I dreamed that a country built on a promise of freedom based on the inscription on the Statue of Liberty, \u201cGive me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!\u201d had been discarded in favour of building walls around the country to keep out the future bright stars of the nation. <\/p>\n
I have never been so afraid of a dream and I was so glad to awaken this morning from this nightmare.
